Most of you know that I worked for Richard Donner as his assistant right after college and right before I started writing. I got the job by cold calling his office and looking for an internship — I wanted to work with him because Superman: the Movie was my favorite film of all time, and the Goonies ruled too.

Anyway, I used to ask him endless questions about the film and the process. From how he tricked Gene Hackman into shaving off his mustache (he was always great with actors) to how he sought out some of the greatest filmmakers out there like Andre De Toth to help him make you believe a man could fly.

Tonight, they are showing a screening @ the Rubin Museum on 17th and 7th Avenue @ 9:30pm with an introduction by Paul Levitz. It’s one of a series of films representing the traditional eight fears of Buddhism. Here, it’s the fear of bandits. And who doesn’t fear Lex Luthor?

For more information check out The Rubin Museum.
If you’re Manhattan maybe I’ll see you there! Have a great weekend.
